Why MS Dhoni Is Not Eligible To Apply For India Head Coach Job - Explained

The race is on for India's new men's cricket head coach. However, one popular name, MS Dhoni , is not eligible to become the coach, once Rahul Dravid steps down after the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup. The reason? Any person applying for the position needs to be retired from playing in all formats. Despite retiring from international cricket in 2020, Dhoni is still playing in the IPL for the Chennai Super Kings, and therefore, cannot be elected as the head coach. Dhoni, being arguably the most popular Indian cricketer, got his fair share of shouts on social media to become Team India's new coach. However, this does not rule out Dhoni's potential involvement with the team. It is important to remember that he mentored the Indian team during the 2021 T20 World Cup, held in the UAE. That time around, India had crashed out in the group stages. There has also been nothing to suggest that Dhoni will retire post-IPL 2024, with him still being in good form. This year, he scored at

ISIS-K has called for a "Lone Wolf" attack on the India-Pakistan World Cup Cricket match here next month, a top police official has warned while putting security on high alert. In a video that has gone global, the terror group is "calling for that 'Lone Wolf' to act out", said Patrick Ryder, the Police Commissioner of Nassau County where the match is scheduled for June 6. "Lone Wolves" are members or sympathisers of terrorist organisations who take cues from the organisations and operate independently by themselves making it more difficult to track them down. On Wednesday, New York Governor Kathy Hochul said that she has "directed the New York State Police to engage in elevated security measures, including an increased law enforcement presence, advanced surveillance, and thorough screening processes". Bruce Blakeman, the head of Nassau County bordering New York City, said at a news conference, "We make sure that we are on top of

"No Better Way To Serve Humanity, India": Major Set To Be Honoured By UN

Major Radhika Sen, a peacekeeper who served with the United Nations peacekeeping mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo, was pursuing a career in biotechnology before she joined the Indian Army. Major Sen said it was after she made the switch that she realised there was no better way for her to serve humanity and the country. Speaking exclusively to NDTV, the Major, who will be honoured by the United Nations with the prestigious 2023 Military Gender Advocate of the Year Award, also said that being part of the Indian Army made the challenges faced by her in the Congo easier because soldiers in the force work in different regions of the country and are exposed to different environments. Major Sen will receive the award, which recognises a military peacekeeper who has best integrated a gender perspective into peacekeeping activities, from UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. Asked about the challenge of ensuring that peacekeepers under her command recognised the importance of ge

"Sketchy, Tainted": Court Condemns Probe In Murder Case Against Ram Rahim

Gurmeet Ram Rahim, chief of Dera Sacha Sauda, was acquitted in a 22-year-old murder case today, with the Punjab and Haryana High Court citing  lapses in investigation and lack of solid evidence against the accused. The court also listed the areas in which investigation was "tainted and sketchy" -- including the weapon used for the murder, ballistic reports, post-mortem report, and polygraph test which did not bear out the prosecution claims in the murder of former sect manager Ranjit Singh. Influenced by media glare, the investigating officer(s) "carried out a tainted and sketchy investigation into the crime," said the bench of Justices Sureshwar Thakur and Lalit Batra. The case "is a stark portrayal of the necessity of Courts of law making an incisive and objective analyses of the evidence as exist on record," the judges said. Ram Rahim is serving a 20-year-sentence for raping two of his disciples and has a 16-year-old murder case against him as well.

Pope Francis Used Vulgar Italian Word To Refer To LGBT People: Report

Pope Francis used a highly derogatory term towards the LGBT community as he reiterated in a closed-door meeting with Italian bishops that gay people should not be allowed to become priests, Italian media reported on Monday. La Repubblica and Corriere della Sera, Italy's largest circulation dailies, both quoted the pope as saying seminaries, or priesthood colleges, are already too full of "frociaggine", a vulgar Italian term roughly translating as "faggottness". The Vatican did not respond to a request for comment. La Repubblica attributed its story to several unspecified sources, while Corriere said it was backed up by a few, unnamed bishops, who suggested the pope, as an Argentine, might have not realised that the Italian term he used was offensive. Political gossip website Dagospia was the first to report on the alleged incident, said to have happened on May 20, when the Italian Bishops Conference opened a four-day assembly with a non-public meeting with t

Viral: Shah Rukh Kisses Gauri As KKR Make History In IPL 2024 Final

Kolkata Knight Riders are three times IPL champions now. Barring Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, no other IPL team has been as successful as KKR. The Shah Rukh Khan co-owned franchise, having previously won the title in 2012 and 2014, won their third after a gap of 10 years in some style. They absolutely dominated the proceeding against SunRisers Hyderabad and clinched the title clash by eight wickets.  Shah Rukh Khan, who suffered a heat stroke after KKR's Qualifier 1 win over SRH in Ahmedabad last week, was a happy man. Accompanying was his wife Gauri Khan. They shared a special moment as KKR chased down the 114-run target in 10.3 overs.  Mitchell Starc was magical. Andre Russell was mesmerising. Gautam Gambhir remained stoic. Shah Rukh Khan hid his emotions behind a mask. "No One Was Agreeing...": Shreyas Iyer Takes Aim At BCCI Over Back Injury

Kolkata Knight Riders captain Shreyas Iyer said that he was struggling with his back after the Cricket World Cup 2023 but "no one was agreeing to it". Shreyas was picked for the Test series against England after the World Cup but the batter was left out of the squad for the last three matches after he complained of back spasms. While not on national duty, Shreyas did not play domestic cricket for Mumbai despite being cleared to play by the National Cricket Academy (NCA). It resulted in BCCI not offering him a central contract as secretary Jay Shah warned players against prioritising IPL. Shreyas did play in the Ranji Trophy semi-final and final for Mumbai but it was too late as he lost the central contract and even during the final, he was not on the field for two days due to back issues. Ahead of the IPL 2024 final between KKR and Sunrisers Hyderabad, Shreyas spoke about the injury once again. “I was definitely struggling after the World Cup in the longer format. When I

Star batter Virat Kohli was visibly dejected after the Royal Challengers Bengaluru crashed out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) following the defeat to Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator on Wednesday. RCB's six-game winning-run was abruptly halted in Ahmedabad with the franchise once again missing out on the chance to lift the title. Kohli had a stellar season with the bat, scoring 741 runs in 15 matches. While it is highly likely that Kohli will take home the Orange Cap, an IPL trophy remains elusive for the former RCB captain. After Rovman Powell hit the winning boundary for RR, a dejected Kohli was seen knocking off the bails, repeating his actions after the heartbreaking loss in the ODI World Cup final to Australia at the same venue. Train Drivers, Who Suffered Miscarriages, Now Try To Save Colleagues' Babies

A group of women train drivers, who suffered miscarriages while attending duties, has said the Railways Board should frame guidelines to transfer expecting female frontline workers to lighter or stationary jobs in offices, in consonance with the Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Act, 2017. They have written to the Railway Board, saying the Act prohibits an employer to engage a pregnant woman in a job of arduous nature as it can interfere with her pregnancy. "The job of a loco pilot has been notified as arduous in nature in the Railways Act and section 4 of the Maternity Benefit Act categorically says that women employees cannot be asked to do jobs which is arduous in nature," a female loco pilot, who suffered multiple miscarriages due to her harsh working conditions, said. Women train drivers say entering the engine cab itself is a back-breaking task as the height of the handle of the cab ladder is around six feet from the ground level. "Take 'Sajni' On Voting Date": Poll Body's Meme To Boost Voter Turnout

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has taken a creative approach to boost voter turnout in the 6th phase of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, leveraging a trending meme from the popular Netflix film "Laapataa Ladies." Directed by Kiran Rao and produced by her and Aamir Khan, the film follows the story of two newlyweds who find themselves separated from their husbands right after their weddings. It stars Sparsh Shrivastav, Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta and Ravi Kishan. In one memorable scene from the movie, the protagonist (Sparsh Shrivastav), who hails from a village and doesn't speak English fluently, nervously asks his wife (Nitanshi Goel), "Poori English bolkar dikhaye [May I speak in full English?]" before expressing his love for her.  The ECI has ingeniously adapted this scene into a meme template, with the protagonist saying, "poori English bolkar dikhaye" to his wife, and then goes on to say, "let's go vote."  “This election

4 CBI Officers Arrested For Alleged Bribery In Madhya Pradesh Nursing Scam

A group of Central Bureau of Investigation officers probing the nursing scam of Madhya Pradesh have allegedly become part of it. Over the weekend, four officers -- one of them a Deputy Superintendent -- have been arrested for allegedly accepting bribes. The Central agency has filed cases against 23 people in the case. In August last year, recognition of 19 nursing colleges was cancelled. There were allegations that 'ghost' nursing colleges were being run in the state. The next month, the Madhya Pradesh High Court ordered a CBI probe into all 670 nursing colleges registered in the state in 2020-21. NDTV investigated how many nursing colleges were running without proper faculty or infrastructure. One faculty member was found teaching in at least 10 colleges across three cities -- as principal in some and associate professor in others. NDTV also found colleges that have no faculty hand out "certificates". The arrested CBI officers include Deputy Superintendent Ashish

Was Dhoni At Fault For RCB Handshake Fiasco? New Video Adds Fresh Twist

Chennai Super Kings' elimination from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 left a bitter taste in the mouths of fans as their dream of seeing MS Dhoni lifting the trophy at Chepauk remained unfulfilled. It isn't yet known whether Dhoni plans to play another season, and in that respect, Royal Challengers Bengaluru players were slammed by certain former cricketers and experts over their failure to do the customary handshake with MS Dhoni. Many suggested that RCB players 'over-celebrated' their playoffs progression, prompting Dhoni to return to the dressing room without shaking hands. But, a video, contradicting the same, has emerged on social media. A fan on social media claimed that Dhoni didn't wait much before deciding to return to the dressing room without shaking RCB players' hands, hitting out at those criticising the host team for 'over-celebrating'. I can understand he's pissed but every other player came to shake hands. Those players dese
