Kapil's Big Message To India After NZ Hammering: "Not Going To Happen..."

The Indian cricket team batters have come under a lot of criticism following the 0-3 whitewash in the recently-concluded Test series against New Zealand. Majority of the India batters struggled against the spinners and even stalwarts like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were not spared criticism from fans as well as experts. Legendary India skipper Kapil Dev believes that the only way for the batters to improve is by practicing constantly and he advised them to "go back to the basics". “Go back to the basics. Practice and practice and practice. If you say I will improve by sitting in the room, then it is not going to happen. If you are going through a rough time, just practice more. The more you practice, the better it will be for you," Kapil told CricketNext . Meanwhile, former captain Ricky Ponting reckons Australia will clinch the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 3-1 against India as the visitors will find taking 20 wickets in a Test as their “biggest challenge” in absence o

Aligarh Muslim University A Minority Institution? Big Top Court Verdict Today

The Supreme Court is scheduled to pronounce its verdict on Friday on a vexed legal question whether the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) enjoyed a minority status under Article 30 of the Constitution which empowers the religious and linguistic minorities to establish and administer educational institutions. A seven-judge Constitution bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud will pronounce the verdict. The bench also comprising Justices Sanjiv Khanna, Surya Kant, JB Pardiwala, Dipankar Datta, Manoj Misra and Satish Chandra Sharma had reserved its verdict on the question on February 1 after hearing arguments for eight days. On February 1, grappling with the intractable issue of the AMU's minority status, the top court said the 1981 amendment to the AMU Act, which effectively accorded it a minority status, only did a "half-hearted job" and did not restore to the institution the position it had prior to 1951. While the AMU Act, 1920, speaks about incorporating a teachi

In Trump 2.0, A Galaxy Of Contrarian Characters Set For White House Stints

Republican Donald Trump on Wednesday sealed his historic comeback to the White House and defeated his Democrat rival Kamala Harris despite a criminal conviction and two impeachments while in office. The 78-year-old, who will be the oldest person ever to take the presidential oath when inaugurated on January 20, won wider margins than before to become the 47th president of the United States of America. After his landslide victory over Harris , who would have become America's first woman president if Democrat's bet to replace Joe Biden with her had worked, vowed to fulfil his slogan to "make America great again". Here's a look at the new Trump administration set to bring a contrarian cast of characters into the White House. JD Vance JD Vance , who once described Donald Trump as America's "Hitler", is set to enter the White House as Vice President. The 40-year-old author of the best-selling memoir "Hillbilly Elegy" had repeatedly criticiz

Trump's Election Victory May Add To Trudeau's Challenges In Canada

Donald Trump's return to the White House next year could bring economic pain and difficult decisions for Canada's Liberal Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, once branded a "far-left lunatic" by the Republican. The potential consequences include trade disputes that push Canada into recession since 75% of its exports go to the US, as well as thousands of people pouring north across the US border, analysts and economists said. Trump's victory adds to Trudeau's trouble at a time polls show he would likely lose to his Conservative opponent in an election that must be held within a year. Canada's slowing economy and a rapid surge in the cost of living over the past few years are top campaign issues, which come against the backdrop of diplomatic disputes with China and India that have hampered efforts to diversify trade. Canada, the world's No. 4 crude oil producer, is especially vulnerable to Trump's plan for a 10% tariff on all imports and his vow to boo

Kamala Harris Dials Trump To Concede Presidential Election, Say Her Aides

US Vice President Kamala Harris called Donald Trump on Wednesday to congratulate him for winning the 2024 presidential election, one of her senior aides said, following a bitter and contentious race. Democrat Harris discussed with Mr Trump the importance of a peaceful transfer of power and being a President for all Americans, said the aide, confirming that Ms Harris will deliver remarks in Washington later today. During the acrimonious campaign, the Democratic presidential candidate had described Mr Trump as a unique threat to democracy, but her campaign in the end underwhelmed voters. She will deliver her concession speech in Washington today (2.30 am IST). Mr Trump had never conceded defeat four years ago when his supporters ransacked the US Capitol. He returned to the White House with wider margins than before despite a criminal conviction, two impeachments while last in office and warnings from his former chief of staff that he was a "fascist." At 78, Mr Trump will b

Elon Musk Is Sued Over $1 Million Election Giveaway

Elon Musk was sued in a proposed class action on Tuesday by registered voters who signed his petition to support the Constitution for a chance to win his $1 million-a-day giveaway, and now claim it was a fraud. The complaint filed by Arizona resident Jacqueline McAferty in the Austin, Texas federal court said Musk and his America PAC organization falsely induced voters to sign by claiming they would choose winners randomly, though they were predetermined. She also said the defendants profited from the giveaway by driving traffic and attention to Musk's X social media platform, and by collecting personal information such as her name, address and phone number that they could sell. A lawyer for Musk and lawyers for McAferty did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the complaint. McAferty sued one day after a Philadelphia judge denied a request by that city's district attorney Larry Krasner to end the giveaway, which Krasner called an illegal lottery. That ruling

Netanyahu Fires Defence Minister Yoav Gallant Amid Middle East Conflict

Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu fired defence minister Yoav Gallant Tuesday following public differences over the ongoing war in Gaza, replacing him with former top diplomat Israel Katz. The surprise move to sack Gallant -- who has been hawkish on Israel's war with Hezbollah but has also recently urged a ceasefire and hostage release deal in Gaza -- comes as elections are held in the United States, Israel's top military backer. Netanyahu and Gallant have frequently clashed over Israel's retaliatory military offensive against Hamas following the Palestinian militant group's deadly attack on Israel on October 7 last year. "Over the past few months... trust has eroded. In light of this, I decided today to end the term of the defence minister," a statement from the Netanyahu's office said, adding that he had appointed Katz to take his place. Gideon Saar was in turn appointed to replace Katz as foreign minister. After his sacking, Gallant sa

Watch: Pak Star Teases Cummins, Dismissed To Unplayable Delivery Next

Pakistan star Kamran Ghulam , who scored a brilliant hundred on his Test debut against England, couldn't get his ODI career off to a promising start on Monday. With Pakistan up against the mighty Australians in a 3-match series, Kamran could only score 5 runs from 6 balls in the series opener, after being dismissed to an unplayable delivery by the opponent team's skipper Pat Cummins . Kamran tried to tease Cummins on the previous delivery, hoping to unsettle the Aussie skipper but ended up losing his wicket on the next delivery. In a video shared by Cricket Australia, Ghulam tried to tease Cummins on the 5th delivery of the 19th over. Cummins ended up smiling at the Pakistan star's antics. On the next delivery, the pacer bowled a stunning bouncer that Kamran had no answer for. The ball kissed the Pakistan batter's gloves and ended up in the hands of the wicket-keeper. India A's Ball-Tampering Row Takes New Turn. Player Says, "Nail From..."

The fire-works have already started even before the senior Indian cricket team has landed in Australia. The India vs Australia series is often considered one of the most marquee series and tempers often fly high in the contest. Currently, India A is touring Australia with players like Abhimanyu Easwaran , Nitish Kumar Reddy (both part of the main squad), Ishan Kishan in the team. And, the India A team has been accused of 'ball tampering' during the practice match against Australia A.  Ahead of the start of the day's play on Sunday, the match officials informed India A players that the ball has been changed as it was tampered with. Umpire Shawn Craig brought the development to Indian players' notice during the first unofficial Test. He said: "When you scratch it, we change the ball. No more discussion, let's play." India A's wicket-keeper batter for the match, Ishan Kishan fumed at the umpire's call and called it a "stupid decision".

Gambhir's Wings To Be Clipped? BCCI's 'Big Step' After Poor Start: Report

Unprecedented series defeats against Sri Lanka and New Zealand have placed Gautam Gambhir under immense pressure barely three months into his appointment as the head coach of the Indian team. He was appointed to the top post amid much fanfare and was also given a rare seat at the selection committee meeting for the tour of Australia. However, his initial report card clearly suggests things aren't looking good for the former India opener. Unless there is a remarkable turnaround Down Under, Gambhir, who was given a free hand in selection matters, may not have as much say in issues concerning the team in the coming times. Right after Gambhir took over the reins, India lost an ODI series to Sri Lanka for the first time in 27 years, and then New Zealand completed a 3-0 whitewash of his side in Tests at home on Sunday, something the team never experienced in its long cricketing journey. While the coach can do only as much, questions are now being raised about the lack of prudence on di

Police Rush To American Airlines Flight After Mysterious Mid-Air Noise

Armed police boarded an American Airlines flight after a strange "banging noise" was heard at 30,000 feet, forcing an unexpected return to Buenos Aires, according to AviationSource News. Flight 954 had taken off from Ezeiza International Airport in Buenos Aires at 9:15 pm Thursday, headed to New York with an estimated arrival of 6:50 am Friday. But while flying over Cordoba, the plane suddenly turned back to Buenos Aires for an emergency landing. According to news reports, passengers and crew heard sounds that resembled someone knocking from inside the cargo hold, raising concerns that someone might be trapped there. Initially, the pilot told passengers the plane was returning due to a technical issue but later suggested it was possible a person was in the cargo area, which is typically sealed and not meant for live cargo. Rohit 'Quashes' Ashwin's Suggestion On Ravindra Jadeja. Then This Happens

Whenever India play a Test match at home, the spin duo of Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin   play a crucial role in determining the result thof the match. If they both strike together, more often than not India emerge as the winner. If India go on to win the third India vs New Zealand Test, Jadeja and Ashwin will be credited a lot. In the first innings, Jadeja took five wickets while he has taken four in the second essay. Ashwin has so far taken three wickets in the second innings.  On the second day, an interesting thing happened regarding change of bowling ends. In the final session, Ashwin went up to India skipper Rohit Sharma to suggest Jadeja be bowled from the other end. Sharma did not accept the request initially but then Jadeja was brought in from the other end and  he took the wickets of Daryl Mitchell and Tom Blundell . This was the same end from which the left-arm spinner took a fifer in the first innings. Murali Kartik and Simon Doull, who were doing commentar

"How's Shaw Going?" Australian Coach Takes Subtle Dig At India Star

Well-known Australian batting coach Neil D'Costa has cited Prithvi Shaw's decline in international cricket as a cautionary example, urging Australian selectors not to "rush" 19-year-old sensation Sam Konstas into Test cricket for the blockbuster series against India. He says Konstas isn't ready for the traditional five-day format yet, joining the debate around who would partner Usman Khawaja at the top in the five-match rubber against their fierce rivals from the sub-continent. D'Costa, who was born to Anglo-Indian parents hailing from Chennai, has in the past coached Michael Clarke, the late Phillip Hughes, and helped Mitchell Starc switch to fast bowling from wicket-keeping. The 53-year-old D'Costa has also worked on Konstas' batting in the past but the young New South Welshman is now coached by Tahmid Islam, an ex-Bangladesh first-class player, and former Australian star Shane Watson. He reckons handing Konstas Test debut now would do him more ha

Woman Strips At Iran University To Protest Strict Dress Code: Reports

A young woman stripped to her underwear at an Iranian university on Saturday in an apparent protest against the country's strict Islamic dress code, according to online videos and media reports. A video posted on social media showed security guards at a branch of the Islamic Azad University detaining the unidentified woman. University spokesperson Amir Mahjob said on X that "at the police station,...it was found that she was under severe mental pressure and had a mental disorder". But some social media users suggested the woman's action was a deliberate protest. "For most women, being ...in their underwear in public is one of their worst nightmares, ... This is a reaction to the (authorities') stupid insistence on the mandatory hijab," Lei La, a user on X, said in a comment accompanying the video. The fate of the woman was not known but the mass-circulation daily Hamshahri said on its website: "An informed source said...the perpetrator of this a

Rishabh Pant 'Unhappy' With DC, Report Reveals Major Reason For Exit

An interesting piece of information has been revealed following Rishabh Pant not being retained by Delhi Capitals (DC) ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction. Pant's nine-year connection with the 2020 finalists came to an end as he was released, with Axar Patel being the franchise's first retention. However, a new report has revealed that Pant was left unhappy by the decisions taken by co-owners GMR Group, who will run the franchise for the next two years. This reportedly includes DC's change in coaching staff. As per a report by PTI, Pant was left dissatisfied by the decision to appoint Hemang Badani as the head coach and Venugopal Rao as the Director of Cricket at DC.  Moreover, it has been reported that Pant was also unhappy about his powers being curbed by the GMR Group. "Not A One Way Street": KKR CEO Drops Hint On Reason Behind Shreyas Decision

Venky Mysore, the CEO of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), admitted that it was a very challenging task for them to trim the retentions down to six ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction after winning the previous season. KKR have made their top retention pick in middle-order batter Rinku Singh (INR 13 crore) followed by Andre Russell (INR 12 crore), Sunil Narine (INR 12 crore), Varun Chakaravarthy (INR 12 crore), and uncapped duo of Harshit Rana (INR 4 crore), and Ramandeep Singh (INR 4 crore). It meant KKR had to let go of their title-winning skipper Shreyas Iyer , Mitchell Starc , Phil Salt , Venkatesh Iyer and Nitish Rana . “The no brainers would have been maybe 10 or 11 players, but trying to trim that down to six was very challenging, because it's about the players that you have built an equation with and who have done fantastic for KKR. “Sunil has been with us for 12 years while Andre has been with us for 10 years. Varun has been associated with KKR for a long time, since 2019 a
