"Cheating...": Concussion Substitution Sees Rana's Entry, Internet Reacts

Talented pacer Harshit Rana , who has played two Tests, quite surprisingly made a surprise entry into the India playing XI in the fourth T20I against England in Pune on Friday. Though initially not named in the XI, Rana was called upon to replace allrounder Shivam Dube as a 'like-for-like' concussion substitute after the latter was struck on the helmet in the final over of India's innings. Dube, who scored 53, was hit on the helmet in the penultimate ball of the Indian innings by a Jamie Overton delivery. Following the mandatory concussion test, Dube was cleared to play. However, he was run out on the final delivery of the innings. Dube is a pace allrounder, while Rana has so far played the role of  specialist fast bowler in the Indian cricket team. Rana, who had recently played in the opening Test against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, came in to bowl in the 12th over and made an immediate impact, dismissing Liam Livingstone for 9. Rana finished with three w...

The first one featured an open back; something not thought of before. It also included standardised broad and slanted collars with full sleeves. Additionally, a long piece of knotted fabric fastened around the waist added edginess to his outfit. The young Klum lad teamed his uniquely designed upper with sleek pants that looked stylish. "Why Was My Photo Made Viral?": Man Detained, Released In Saif Attack Case

The 31-year-old man who was detained in Chhattisgarh as a suspect in the Saif Ali Khan case earlier this month said the police action has cost him his job and a marriage proposal, brought immense disrepute to his family, and left him with an "unbearable dangerous feeling".  In an exclusive interview to NDTV, Akash Kanojia, who was briefly detained and interrogated, said his photograph was widely circulated despite having no involvement in the crime. "Why was my photo made viral? I want justice," he said, threatening to move court if his photograph was not brought down by all those who shared it across various online platforms. He also sought to know if police would have acted in a similar way had a VIP or a millionaire's son been a suspect in the case. On January 18, Mr Kanojia was detained from Mumbai Lokmanya Tilak Terminus-Kolkata Shalimar Jnaneswari Express at Chhattisgarh's Durg station by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) after a tip off from Mumba...

The cute and comfortable 700-square-foot house is designed by Mithila's best friend of 10 years, Rutuja Tuluskar. In an interview with Architectural Digest, Mithila said,“Since Rutuja started studying design, I knew that my first house would be designed by her". For the designer, it was about delivering everything that the client; her friend, wanted. “It was a very fluid process. We are not just best friends, but we share an aesthetic sense. Hamas To Release 3 Israelis, 5 Thais Today In Exchange For 110 Palestinians

A Palestinian prisoners advocacy group said Israeli authorities would release 110 prisoners, including 30 minors, on Thursday as part of an exchange under a Gaza ceasefire deal agreed with Hamas. "Tomorrow, 110 Palestinian prisoners are to be released," the Palestinian Prisoners' Club said in a statement, referring to the third exchange of hostages and prisoners under the truce, which began on January 19. The group said the prisoners were expected to arrive in the "Radana area of Ramallah at around noon". Publishing the list of the prisoners, the group said 30 were under the age of 18, 32 had been sentenced to life imprisonment, and 48 others were serving jail terms of varying lengths. The group also said that 20 of the prisoners set to be released would be sent into exile. In the previous two swaps, seven Israeli hostages were freed by militants in exchange for 290 prisoners -- almost all Palestinians, with the exception of one Jordanian. On Thursday, thr...

White House Cancels Trumps Federal Funding Freeze Amid Chaos: Reports

Rafts of government aid programs and the health care system for millions of low-income Americans were up in the air after Trump ordered a halt to potentially trillions of dollars in grants, loans and other aid late Monday. The move -- made in an order from White House's Office of Management and Budget -- sparked instant alarm and confusion, as well as a flurry of lawsuits before a judge issued a temporary injunction. On Wednesday, the Office of Management and Budget issued a terse notification saying the freezing of aid order had been "rescinded." However, soon after Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced that the spending freezes remained in place -- and only the memo from the budget office was rescinded. "This is NOT a rescission of the federal funding freeze" which remains in "full force," she said on X. The White House has strongly defended the freeze as a blow against what Trump says is  waste and "woke" federal spending program...

In ISRO's 100th Mission, GSLV-F15 Carrying Navigation Satellite Lifts Off

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched their GSLV-F15 carrying the NVS-02 on 6:23 AM at Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh, marking ISRO's 100th rocket mission. The mission is also the first for the space agency's Chairman V Narayanan, who assumed office recently. It is ISRO's maiden venture this year. The first big rocket to liftoff from Sriharikota was the Satellite Launch Vehicle (SLV) on August 10, 1979, and now nearly 46 years later the Department of Space has hit a century. Till now all big rocket launches at Sriharikota have been by the Indian government. Earlier on Tuesday, S. Unnikrishnan Nair, Director of India's main rocket lab the Vikram Sarabhai Space Center, in Thiruvananthapuram said "It is as robust as previous one. Like any other launch. We make every launch robust to the best of our ability. It will be successful." This rocket was once dubbed as the 'naughty boy' of ISRO since it gave the Indian space agency t...

"How Can I Play For India?" Kohli Asked By Boy. Replies: "Tell Papa..."

At exactly 9am when his jet black Porsche zoomed in through the Feroz Shah Kotla ground's ' Virender Sehwag Gate', it was homecoming for Delhi's very own Virat Kohli , who checked in for a training stint with his first-class team after more than 12 years. Save for pacer Navdeep Saini , all other 18 members of Delhi's squad had only seen him on TV and grown up listening to the tales of how 'Cheeku', the cherubic talent, became the 'King' of Indian cricket. In the last 15 years, Delhi's 'Cheeku' became a hazy memory as he turned into the most commercially viable brand in global cricket, the face that ICC sold in its Olympic bid presentation. On Monday, he was at his home ground for around three hours and had everyone in his vicinity hypnotised. Whether the young impressionable players, or seasoned head coach Sarandeep Singh or batting coach Bantu Singh -- all of them evidently wanted to be close to him. Though courteous with all, the f...

Uzbek GM Reminded Of Handshake With Divya Deshmukh After Snubbing Vaishali

Uzbekistan's Grandmaster Nodirbek Yakubboev triggered a huge controversy after deciding to snub a handshake offer by Indian chess star Vaishali, who is also the sister of R Praggnanandhaa. As soon as the video of the handshake snub surfaced on social media, the Uzbek GM's act saw him court plenty of criticism. Some even reminded him of his match against another Indian chess star Divya Deshmukh in 2023, where Yakubboev had shaken hands with his opponent. As the controversy spiralled on, Yakubboev decided to issue an apology and also a clarification. A video circulating on social media showed Vaishali extending her hand before the start of a fourth-round match against Yakubboev. However, Yakubboev sits down after turning down her gesture, leaving the Indian player visibly uncomfortable. Once the video went viral, Yakubboev posted a response on 'X' saying, "I want to explain the situation that happened in the game with Vaishali. With all due respect to women and Ind...

"You Were Supposed To Ensure Transition": Gambhir Gets '1-Year Warning'

The performances of several veteran Indian cricketers, including the likes of Rohit Sharma , Virat Kohli , Mohamed Siraj, etc. have come under the spotlight over recent poor performances. While Rohit and Virat are even being pushed to quit Test cricket, no such verdict exists at present for head coach Gautam Gambhir . With the Champions Trophy being India's next big assignment, there are some who feel the team's poor show in the ICC event could lead to Gambhir's exit. However, former India opener Aakash Chopra feels the Test tour of England will define whether the head coach will stay or not. Gambhir was brought in as India's head coach after Rahul Dravid 's exit, following the team's ICC T20 World Cup triumph last year. As Gambhir nears completion of one year at the job, Chopra feels the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is bound to review his performances as well. "I feel one more England tour. I don't think the BCCI will say anything to...

China's AI Startup DeepSeek Hit By "Cyberattack", Limits New Registration

Chinese AI sensation DeepSeek on Monday said it was limiting the registration of new users due to large-scale cyberattacks on its services. The company, whose chatbot took over OpenAI's ChatGPT as Apple's top downloaded app on Monday, cited "large-scale malicious attacks" for outages and its inability to take on new users. DeepSeek, which was developed by a start-up based in the eastern Chinese city of Hangzhou, has shown the ability to match the capacity of AI pace-setters such as Nvidia. Its success on the US app store sent shares in AI-linked tech giants plummeting on Monday. The low-cost Chinese generative AI venture is thought to have matched US companies in its abilities but at a fraction of the cost. Analysts had long thought that the United States' critical advantage over China when it comes to producing high-powered chips -- and its ability to prevent the Asian power from accessing the technology -- would give it the edge in the AI race. India Star Gets Blockbuster Dhoni Praise From Manjrekar: "Being The Man..."

Former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar has showered big praise on youngster Tilak Varma , comaring his match-winning abilities to that of legendary wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni . Manjrekar's remarks came after Tilak single-handedly took India to a win over England in the second T20I on Saturday, despite wickets falling at the other end. Manjrekar highlighted how Tilak managed to keep his composure till the end, something which Dhoni used to during his playing days. Needing 166 to win, Tilak's 55-ball 72 steered India home with four balls to spare. "Absolutely. The confidence he has that he will be able to see India through the very end and even in this run chase, there was no panic around the 18th over. Even in the 19th over, you could see that India wasn't getting the boundary that could take the pressure off. But he was quite happy to virtually be there till the end. It seems the guy who is confident and being the man who can take his team through, just like we had a...

India Will Be Strong If Sanatan Dharma Is Strong: Yogi Adityanath

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday urged people to take forward the message of unity, saying the country will be strong if Sanatan dharma is strong. He also accused the opposition parties of seeking to divide the country on caste-religious lines for their own political interests and said doing so is nothing less than treason. He voiced strong disapproval of demands from some quarters to divide the state into four, saying the potential of Uttar Pradesh lies in its unity. "The message of the Maha Kumbh is the message of unity and integrity, and this should go out to the world. If all the saints, devotees or even tourists, who are part of the Maha Kumbh, take forward the message of unity, then Sanatan dharma will be strengthened and, if Sanatan dharma is strong, then our country will be strong," Adityanath said in an interview to "News18 Network" at the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela. India Star Twists Ankle Ahead Of 2nd T20I, Headache For Gambhir And Co.

India opener Abhishek Sharma faced an injury scare ahead of the second T20I against England as he twisted his ankle during the catching drill at nets in Chennai on Friday. Subsequently, Abhishek was checked by team physiotherapist on the field before retreating to the dressing room to give rest to his ankle. He was seen slightly limping while walking back to the pavilion and did not bat at nets either. The 24-year-old spent more than half an hour with the physio in the dressing room. Abhishek made a quickfire 79 in the first match in Kolkata where India scored a facile seven-wicket victory. If Abhishek has to sit out of the match on Saturday in Chennai, India have the options of fielding Washington Sundar or Dhruv Jurel in the eleven. In that event, Tilak Varma can move up the order to open with Sanju Samson . India are leading the five-match series 1-0 after winning the first match in Kolkata by seven wickets. Meanwhile, India spinner Varun Chakravarthy on Friday equated the s...

Foreign Minister Engages US, Foreign Secretary, China: India's Balancing Act

India's diplomacy stands out globally for its ability to balance ties between adversaries. The latest example of this is happening this week. As foreign minister S Jaishankar touches down in New Delhi after a five-day visit to the US for Donald Trump's inauguration, foreign secretary Vikram Misri heads to China to foster ties with Beijing. Just ten days ago, during a visit to Spain, foreign minister S Jaishankar had said India is one of the very few countries in the world that can engage both Russia and Ukraine, as well as Israel and Iran. "This is something very, very unique. And it is unique because if you look at the world today, it is a very polarised world," he said. Donald Trump has threatened to impose hefty tariffs on China and even the BRICS+ countries, which India is a member of as well. China, the world's second-largest economy, has warned that it will retaliate, should Washington actually follow through. President Trump has also targeted China over i...

"Zelenskyy Decided I Want To Fight": Trump Blames Ukraine President For War

President Donald Trump suggested that Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy should not have resisted Russia's invasion, citing the significant power imbalance between the two nations, in a Fox News interview. "Zelenskyy was fighting a much bigger entity, much bigger, much more powerful," Trump said, emphasising that Russia's superior military might made resistance futile. "He shouldn't have done that, because we could have made a deal". Trump's stance on the conflict is rooted in his belief that Zelenskyy should have negotiated a deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin to avoid the war. "I could have made that deal so easily, and Zelenskyy decided that 'I want to fight,'" Trump claimed, implying that Zelenskyy's decision to resist was misguided. This perspective is in stark contrast to that of former President Joe Biden, who consistently supported Ukraine's right to defend itself and imposed sanctions on Russia in...

US Health Executive, Father Of 5, Charged With Producing Child Pornography

A Long Island healthcare executive, father to five kids, allegedly preyed on nearly a dozen teen girls to produce child porn over four years. Jacob Walden, 38, is an executive and co-owner of Emerald Healthcare, a Woodmere-based company that oversees assisted living and nursing homes around the US. He was remanded to a federal jail on Wednesday.    At his arraignment at Central Islip Federal Court, Walden entered a not-guilty plea to a six-count indictment that charged him with sexually exploiting two teens, ages 16 and 17, as well as receiving and possessing child pornography, reported The New York Post.  "As alleged, the defendant enticed minors to produce sexually explicit photographs and videos of themselves and send them to him via the Internet in exchange for payment. Protecting children from predators who sexually exploit them will always be a priority of my Office,"  US Attorney John Durham, of the Eastern District of New York, said in a statement....

"It Cannot Whitewash Blood": Judge Slams Trump Pardons For Capitol Rioters

Three federal judges on Wednesday strongly condemned President Donald Trump's sweeping pardons of supporters who stormed the US Capitol four years ago in an attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 election. "No pardon can change the tragic truth of what happened on January 6, 2021," District Judge Tanya Chutkan said in an order dismissing the charges against a Capitol riot defendant. "It cannot whitewash the blood, feces, and terror that the mob left in its wake," Chutkan said. "And it cannot repair the jagged breach in America's sacred tradition of peacefully transitioning power." Trump, just hours after taking office on Monday, granted pardons to more than 1,500 of his supporters who stormed the Capitol in a bid to halt congressional certification of Joe Biden's election victory. In doing so, he also commuted the sentences of 14 members of the far-right Proud Boys and the Oath Keepers militia. Chutkan presided over the criminal case ...

Consent For Sex Doesn't Extend To Filming, Sharing Private Moments: Court

The Delhi High Court has significantly held the consent to have sex doesn't allow capturing private moments and posting it on social media. Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma while dismissing the bail application by a rape accused said consent did not extend to permitting misuse and exploitation of private images. "Even if the consent for sexual relations had been given at any point in time by the complainant, such consent cannot, in any manner, be construed as consent to capture and post her inappropriate videos on social media platforms. Consent to engage in physical relations does not extend to the misuse or exploitation of a person's private moments or their depiction in an inappropriate and derogatory manner," the court held in a January 17 verdict. The accused, in the present case, alleged it was a case of a "long friendly relationship" turning sour owing to the woman failing to repay a loan he gave her. Refusing to grant any reprieve, the court said eve...

Government May Gain Control Over Pataudi Family's Rs 15,000 Crore Property

Image
The historical properties of the Pataudi family estimated to be worth Rs 15,000 crore and linked to the family of Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, are one step closer to being taken under government control. The Madhya Pradesh High Court, in a significant ruling, lifted the stay imposed on these properties in 2015, potentially paving the way for their acquisition under the Enemy Property Act, 1968. Prominent properties under scrutiny include the Flag Staff House, where Saif Ali Khan spent his childhood, along with Noor-Us-Sabah Palace, Dar-Us-Salam, Bungalow of Habibi, Ahmedabad Palace, Kohefiza Property, and others. Justice Vivek Agarwal, while delivering the order, said a statutory remedy exists under the amended Enemy Property Act, 2017, and directed the parties concerned to file a representation within 30 days. "If a representation is filed within 30 days from today, the appellate authority shall not advert to the aspect of limitation and shall deal with the appeal on its ow...

Usha Vance Becomes 1st Indian-American Second Lady

Usha Vance became the first Indian-American and Hindu Second Lady after her husband J.D. Vance was sworn in as the 50th Vice President of the US on Monday. She held the Bible in one hand, and their daughter Mirabel Rose in the other, as Vance placed his left hand on the religious text, and raising his right hand took the oath of office. President Donald Trump said later that Usha Vance is smarter than her husband and that he might have picked her as the Vice President. Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, a mentor to Usha Vance, administered the oath to her husband. J.D. Vance was sworn in before President Donald Trump took the oath of office. Before the Vances came to the podium, military personnel in ceremonial uniforms brought their children, Ewan Blaine, 7, Vivek, 4, and Mirabel Rose, 3, to the podium. The boys wore formal suits, and Usha Vance was dressed in pink. She beamed and looked admiringly at J.D. Vance as he repeated the oath after Kavanaugh. J.D. Vance's mot...
