"Some Bully Governments Insist On Negotiations": Khamenei After Trump Threat

Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Saturday slammed what he described as bullying tactics a day after US President Donald Trump threatened military action against Iran. "Some bully governments -- I really don't know of any more appropriate term for some foreign figures and leaders than the word bullying -- insist on negotiations," Khamenei told officials after Trump threatened military action if Iran refuses to engage in talks over its nuclear programme. "Their negotiations are not aimed at solving problems, they aim at domination," Khamenei said. On Friday, Trump said he had written to Iran's supreme leader, urging new talks on the country's nuclear programme or face possible military action if it refuses. Khamenei said on Saturday that bullying powers aim to assert their own expectations. "They are setting new expectations that they think will definitely not be met by Iran," he said, without naming the United States or r...

Actor Gene Hackman Died Of Natural Causes, A Week After Wife

Oscar-winning actor Gene Hackman died of natural causes, probably around a week after his wife passed away, the chief medical investigator in the US state of New Mexico said Friday. The findings end more than a week of mystery that have surrounded the death of one of Hollywood's most beloved stars, whose everyman persona belied a powerful presence and rare acting skill. "The cause of death for Mr. Gene Hackman, aged 95 years, is hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, with Alzheimer's disease as a significant contributory factor," Heather Jarrell, the chief medical examiner for the New Mexico Office of the Medical Investigator, told reporters. "The cause of death for Miss Betsy Hackman, aged 65 years, is hantavirus, pulmonary syndrome. The manner of death is natural." Neither body showed any sign of trauma, nor any indication of carbon monoxide poisoning, which had been an initial suggestion. Hantavirus presents as a flu-like disease, w...

An 82-year-old woman is in an ICU, under observation for potential brain bleeds, following a fall at the Delhi airport after she was allegedly denied a wheelchair which was pre-booked with Air India. The granddaughter said her grandmother has been in the ICU for two days and the left side of her body is losing strength.  Responding to the granddaughter's post, Air India said it was "concerned to note" the incident and wished the woman a speedy recovery. Days After White House Clash, Zelensky's "Strong Leader" Praise For Trump

A day after the United States suspended supplies of military aid to Kyiv, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday proposed a possible peace plan to end the war with Russia, saying he was willing to work "constructively" under "strong leadership" of US President Donald Trump. In an extraordinary turnaround, Zelensky also indicated he was ready to sign a deal giving the US access to Ukraine's mineral wealth. The Ukrainian leader traveled to Washington on Friday to sign the deal, but it was put on hold after a contentious Oval Office meeting between Trump and  Zelensky that resulted in the latter's swift departure from the White House.  On Tuesday, Zelensky said he was "ready to come to the negotiating table as soon as possible", called the Oval Office meeting "regrettable." I would like to reiterate Ukraine's commitment to peace. None of us wants an endless war. Ukraine is ready to come to the negotiating table as soon a...

Donald Trump To Lay Out Vision To Congress Amid Ukraine And Trade Tensions

President Donald Trump will tout radical plans to reshape the US government and end the Ukraine war Tuesday as he addresses Congress for the first time since his blistering return to power six weeks ago. Trump's theme will be the "renewal of the American dream" but it promises to be a divisive evening, with the high-octane start to his second term causing huge upheaval at home and abroad. The Republican is expected to set out what he views as his key achievements, including a record blitz of executive orders and an assault on the federal bureaucracy led by Elon Musk, the world's richest man. Space X and Tesla tycoon Musk will be at the US Capitol to watch the speech, which is to begin at 9.00pm (0200 GMT Wednesday). Trump will also set out his vision on the economy -- even as the trade war he launched against Canada, China and Mexico roils world markets and threatens to raise prices at home. Despite a bitter row in the Oval Office with Ukraine's leader just d...

"Rohit Is Fat" Comment Row To Demoralise India in CT 2025? BCCI's Response

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia on Monday slammed Congress spokesperson Shama Mohamed for questioning India captain Rohit Sharma 's captaincy credentials and fitness levels, saying it was very unfortunate for a responsible person to pass such a trivial comment in the middle of the national team's Champions Trophy campaign. India have reached the semifinals of the ICC event and play Australia in the semifinal in Dubai on Tuesday. They beat New Zealand on Sunday to top their group. "Very unfortunate for a responsible person to pass such a trivial comment when the team is in the midst of such a marquee ICC tournament. It may have demoralising effect on an individual or the team," Saikia told PTI. "All the players are performing to their highest potential and results are visible. I hope individuals shall desist from making such derogatory statements for personal publicity sake at the cost of National Interest," he added. Shama caused a stir on social media with ...

"Dismayed": Shashi Tharoor On Kerala Startups Days After Remark Sparked Row

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Sunday backtracked on his stance regarding industrial growth in Kerala, stating that the state needs more MSME start-ups — not just on paper. Sharing a news report from an English daily on 'X', Mr Tharoor expressed disappointment over the state's start-up ecosystem, saying it was not as promising as reported. "Dismayed to see that the Kerala start-up entrepreneurship story is not what's been reported," he posted. The news report he shared claimed that over 42,000 MSMEs had shut down in Kerala over the past nine years, resulting in the loss of employment for at least 1,03,764 workers. "The only silver lining is that at least the GoK's claims point to the right intentions. We need more MSME start-ups— and not just on paper. Kerala must head this way!" his post added. However, State Industries Minister P Rajeeve dismissed the news report as "baseless." "I provided a detailed reply in the Assembly on ...

Vivek Ramaswamy Trolled For Barefoot Interview, Sparks Debate On Culture

Vivek Ramaswamy, the 39-year-old entrepreneur and former presidential candidate, has found himself at the center of a heated debate after a clip of him giving a barefoot interview at home resurfaced online. The video, which was recorded during a live stream last year, has sparked a wave of strong reactions on social media, with some critics labeling his actions as "uncivilised" and "anti-American". Commentator Ian Miles Cheong was quick to defend Ramaswamy, dismissing the backlash as "the dumbest argument" he's heard. Cheong pointed out that going barefoot in one's own home is hardly anti-American, and that perhaps critics have been influenced by sitcoms where characters wear shoes in bed, “I guess too many people grew up on sitcoms where they wear their shoes in bed.” The dumbest argument I've heard against Vivek is that going barefoot in your own house is anti-American. I guess too many people grew up on sitcoms where they wear their shoes...

Cosmonaut Oleg Artemyev, participant of three ISS expeditions, met astronaut Mike Massimino in India, the two took a selfie and sent it to Sunita Williams. "She (Sunita) is one of the happiest colleagues of mine ever. Now she has been almost 8 months in the orbit. "She replied she is very happy," said cosmonaut Artemyev, adding that the two told her that they are looking forward to meet her in March.
